I have a house with a small solar array, a small battery and an EV. Working with ModBESS I was able to select the best tariff for my electricity use and set up the right profile for charging and discharging my battery. As a result, most months my electric bill is zero or I get a credit. I estimate that charging and discharging the battery at the correct times is saving me around $80 per month. More important, however, is that when there was a failure of my battery charger I was notified right away and I was able to schedule service and update the battery software with my installer. When my solar system fails, it costs me around $60 per week. I even get advice and tips on adjustments to my car charging schedule that have helped me a great deal.

Our original solar system in Hawaii proved to be insufficient for our needs. With help from ModBESS we were able to have my solar installer expand the system to add additional solar+battery and preserve our Net Energy Metering contract with the utility. The result has been a system that has significantly reduced our electricity costs. Our utility bills went from around $750 per month when on-island down to around $450 per month. Even better, when we are off-island our electric bills went down from around $300 per month to nearly $0. We love the fact that ModBESS continues to track the performance of the system and keeps an eye out for any failures and informs me. This is essential for seasonal homeowners like me that aren’t always around to notice when there is a problem.

I am absolutely delighted with the service provided by ModBESS (working alongside Renewable Energy Services) that resulted in the upgrade of my original solar + batteries installation. As originally installed, the system was completely unable to cope with an outage when it happened, and the savings in electricity, although significant, were nowhere near the promised values and expectations. After we upgraded the system with ModBESS consultation and advice, and after actively tracking the performance of the system and making additional adjustments, our electricity bills went down from $800 a month to under $60 per month. Most recently, we had an inverter firmware upgrade failure that went unnoticed for a few weeks. Now we have signed up for ModBESS’s advanced performance tracking service that will give us timely alerts of any future failures and plan to subscribe to their premium service (HomeOptimizer) that will allow us to operate the house in “survivability mode” even when we are not on-island as soon as it becomes available. We think everyone that has a home from which they are absent for significant periods needs this service from ModBESS!
